IP and Commercialisation Unit
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND COMMERCIALISATION UNIT (IPCU)
Universiti Teknologi Brunei aims to inculcate a research, an innovative and entrepreneurial culture amongst its academics, staff members and students. Aligned with this aim, the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation unit was set up in 2013 to assist the University’s academics, researchers and students to protect the Intellectual Property (IP) derived from their research or inventions and support the University’s commercialization activities.
The unit strives to provide support to its researches whose research outcome could have the potential to be patented or protected by other IP. It is the unit’s responsibility to assist them in identifying and assessing the IP protection and potential commercialisation possibilities.
The unit promotes IP awareness and provides education to its academics, staff members and students through seminars and workshops. Additionally, the unit also initiates networking and linkages between CIPTA winners and participants with government and private agencies such as Brunei Intellectual Property Office, Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) to provide understanding of the processes involved in protecting inventions and innovations, writing business plans, starting up business and how to get funding.
