18 July 2020 – Working in a team to raise awareness on General Orders (G.O.), services and administrative matters in the government, a group of students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in collaboration with Public Service Department (PSD) developed a mobile application called ‘G.O. On the Go’.
Transitioning from physical to paperless handbook, the G.O. On the Go app serves as an alternative to provide users ease of access and searchable content for the government servants and members of the public to access the updated General Orders handbook and any related documents at any convenient place and time.
Other than General Order’s handbook, the application enables users to easily search and download General Order’s examination past year papers and answer the quizzes on mobile or tablets digitally.
As of today, the application has reached a total of 675 active installs for Android, while 420 units on App Store since it’s launched on 30 April 2020 and 25 June 2020 respectively.
The mobile app developers; Siti Zubaidah binti Haji Ismail, Siti Fathin Maziyyah Amal Hayati binti Haji Metussin, and Nurulain binti Haji Fauzul from the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) underwent their internship at PSD as part of their ExperiencePLUS, an industrial attachment programme. During their internship, the team developed the mobile app as a continuation project from the Computing Group Project (CGP) module.
With thorough research, the students successfully built G.O. On the Go within a period of four to six months with the help of their lecturers, supervisors and staff from UTB and PSD respectively. The team was able to learn all the processes involved in developing and deploying the application in an actual working environment including new programming language and UI software development kit.
Besides learning how to build application, the hands-on experience during their internship has helped them to learn how to brainstorm ideas and understand the General Orders more in depth.
The ‘G.O on the Go’ application is available to download on Google Play store for Android users, and Apple App Store for iOS users.
