20 May 2020 – As part of an initiative to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan, Student Affairs Office; UTB Student Representative Council 2020/2021 (MPPUTB); and EXCO Community Service & Project; from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) organised a charity drive for the third consecutive year called Ramadan Drive 3.0. This drive is also supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Sukarelawan Belia.
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the distribution of donations to houses are carried out by practicing social and physical distancing in accordance to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) advice.
The delegation was led by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dk Ida Nurul-Fitri binti Pg Hj Kahar along with the staff and students of the University. The donations were delivered to twelve underprivileged families mainly senior citizens residing around the country starting 16 May until 19 May 2020.
A total of BND$3,139.01 and countless in-kind items were received from staff and students of the university this year which started since 30 April 2020. Amongst the items that were donated include daily necessities/basic household food supplies, cleaning supplies and toiletries.
Besides Ramadhan Drive 3.0, the university has also initiated a special fund to help its students during this pandemic. The fund was initiated to help underprivileged students who are facing financial challenges with online learning since its inception on 16 March 2020 as part of the University’s effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. A total of BND$3,705 were collected and given to ninety-four recipients.
