As part of the 28th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers (EDPSGO) and 29th Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO) organised by Public Service Department (JPA) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), a dialogue session was held between Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of Finance and Economy II and the participants of Executive Development Programmes.
During the dialogue session, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew delivered a talk on ‘Brunei’s Economy after Oil and Gas: How should we prepare?‘ that aimed to provide exposure to the participants on the current Brunei economic status as well as the challenges of preparing for the country’s economic stability whilst reducing reliance on the oil and gas resources. The session is triggered critical and analytical thinking among participants to instill innovative concepts for the betterment of Public Service.
The Minister shared the current economic status of Brunei and the initiatives taken to move away from reliance on oil and gas resources. He also highlighted the importance to maintain and improve the quality of life for Bruneians by generating sustainable jobs and the importance of welfare today and in the future, and the challenge to maintain the way of life without changes to the economic structure of Brunei Darussalam.
The dialogue session was intended to provide the participants with the opportunity to make the most of the session with the Minister in the best interest of the next generation and economic stability of the country.
The dialogue held at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex, UTB saw a participation of 24 government officers from EDPSGO and 25 government officers from EDPMMO. Also present were Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; Hajah Noor Airah binti Hj Abdul Rahman, Acting Deputy Director General of Public Service Department; and UTB Principal Officers.
With ‘Public Sector Innovation’ theme, the executive development programmes are designed in light to support the strategic focus area of JPA that is to build a modern and effective public service that supports country’s development; and to enhance effectiveness of Government rules and procedures to ensure prompt decision making and to provide high quality public services.
The 28th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers (EDPSGO) and 29th Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO) were officially commenced on 18 August 2020 at UTB.
