27 March 2019 – A dialogue session hosted by Centre for Research on Agri-Food Science and Technology (CrAFT) was held at the Conference Room, Engineering Block, Phase 2, UTB.
The session was attended by The Honourable Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, member of the Legislative Council (LegCo). Also in attendance were the Director of CrAFT, Professor Dr. Beston F. Nore; Dean of School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics (SASM), Dr. Namasivayam Navaranjan; lecturers; and students of the University.
The session was entitled “The Global Development: A New Farming Method for Bigger Rice Harvests” presented by Professor Dr. Beston F. Nore. The professor focused on the usage of System of Rice Intensification (SRI), an approach for sustainable rice cultivation that are currently adopted in other countries.
Also at the event, The Honourable Nik Hafimi mentioned on food fraud that needs to be taken seriously and the importance of food security in Brunei where she highlighted that the best way to ensure long term food security is by growing our food locally.
