A ceremony to mark collaboration between Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Majlis Perundingan Kampung Tungku Katok (MPK) was held on 7 June 2020 at Simpang 239, Jalan Tungku.
Present during the ceremony was Awang Haji Ismail bin Haji Rajab, Village Head of Kampung Tungku Katok, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Alikhan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, Project Advisor of MPK and Awang Haji Salleh bin Mahmud, Secretary of MPK. Leading the delegation from UTB was Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, also present were Haji Ady Syarmin bin Hj Md Taib, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Industry and Services), Dr Ahmad Syamaizar bin Hj Sabli, Dean School of Design and Dr Zulkefle bin Ismail, Assistant Professor
Prior to the ceremony, both parties discussed on the concept designs of Gerai Tang Salangan project and the future direction of collaboration between UTB and MPK Tungku Katok. It was shared during the discussion that MPK Tungku Katok will dedicate 1 acre to Gerai Tang Salangan which will house, among others, products from MPK.
Students and staff from School of Design were invited by MPK Tungku Katok in February this year to submit concept designs for Gerai Tang Salangan and the most suitable design will be chosen for build on site.
The collaboration between UTB and MPK Tungku Katok will not only confine to Gerai Tang Salagan project but to other projects as well. The site will become a live project for UTB staff and students to do research and conduct study through Environment, Leadership, Technopreneurship and Social Innovation (ELTSI) module. It also provides opportunity to build partnership within the local community and provides solutions to real world problems. UTB’s ultimate goal is to reach its vision, which is “A Global University Impacting Society.”
