APPRECIATION DINNER FOR CIPTA 2019 JUDGES

06 March 2019 – In conjunction with the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) 2019 Judging Week that took place from 5 – 6 March 2019, an Appreciation Dinner for the CIPTA 2019 panel of judges was held at the Tarindak D’Seni, Bandar Seri Begawan. The Guest of Honour at the event was the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Yang Mulia Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh.

The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a welcoming remark by the Co-Chair of Technical Committee, Yang Mulia Dr Aida Maryam binti Haji Basri. The Guest of Honour also presented appreciation certificates and mementos to the competition judges.

The Organising Committee of CIPTA 2019 is engaging 2 ASEAN judges and 4 local judges from diverse background in academia and the industry to assess 23 local and 7 ASEAN participating entries. These respected judges include Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah from Malaysia and Yang Mulia Awang R. Rizky A. Adiwilaga from Indonesia; and the local judges include Yang Mulia Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Esa Al-Islam bin Pengiran Haji Yunus, Yang Mulia Awang Hirman bin Haji Abu, Yang Mulia Awang Mohd Raymin Othman and Yang Mulia Mr. Edwin Lim.

The general criteria for judging the projects include: novelty, originality or creativity of the work; potential for commercial application and contribution to the development of society; deployment of end product, full report and presentation.

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award is a biennial competition organized by UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd. CIPTA 2019 is the eighth CIPTA competition, themed ‘Industry 4.0: Convergence of Innovation’. There are three local categories in CIPTA 2019: ‘Category 1 – Creating New Product, Process or Technology’; ‘Category 2 – Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology’; and ‘Category 3 – Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors’. The ‘Smart Junior Competition’ is for lower secondary school students (Year 7-9) in the country. Meanwhile, the ASEAN Category is participated by individuals or teams from ASEAN other than Brunei Darussalam. The ASEAN category has two sub-categories namely: New Invention & Innovation Category, and the Young Inventor Category.

The Organising Committee will also be holding a CIPTA 2019 Seminar themed ‘Industry 4.0:  Convergence of Innovation’ which will be held at UTB on Thursday, 7 March 2019. There will be two presentations in the half-day Seminar :’Expose Your Talent to the World Through Creative and Innovative Thinking’ by Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, Associate Professor from the Faculty Engineering Technology of University Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia; and ‘Intellectual Property Commercialization Indonesia Currently: Case Study Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)’ by Yang Mulia Awang R. Rizky A. Adiwilaga, Senior Legal Advisor of Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development from Institute Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia.
